Copy

I found this style of design through searching on Pinterest I thought it was a really interesting and unique style of geometric graphic design capturing the basic bold colour of whatever the subject matter might be. I wanted to try and recreate this type of graphics in a different design but on a similar subject matter.

I began by choosing an image, similar to the original, that had bright, bold and and a variation of colours. Using the Polygonal Lasso Tool on photoshop I started to transform the areas of the bird into individual colours by selecting an area and filling it in by using the Eyedropper Tool to detect the correct colour for each individual area each time.

Further development, the vector portrait style bird is beginning to come together and look much more interesting, I tried to only stick to and use triangle shapes during this copy.

Selecting the correct colour was a long process because each and every selection had to have a new colour selected by me.

Above is an image of what the complete copy design looks like with out the background, I think although it is obviously clear to see that the bird it not perfect I looks very unusual and the 'flaws' it contains are very fitting with the original theme that was set.

Both of the above images are my copy complete. I am really pleased with the outcome because I feel it is a very bold style of design and my copy captures looks of the bright colours. I feel I enjoyed creating this vector portrait/geometric style of graphics and I felt impressed when I could see it developing and gradually progressing towards the end pieces, I feel comfortable enough to uses this style for my emulation and then possibly take it even further to use of my final piece some how.

Make Up Poster Scamps

Creating these rough stamps of other professional makeup posters really helped me to focus and understand the layout of a makeup poster and the kind of elements you might find on one, including the brand name, the make up product, a photograph, typeface and other text. When creating my scamps I tried to gather a range of different designs to explore a wide verity of style of design and layout.

Draft Designs for Make Up Products

I really like the very top design with the feather because the design elements of contrast and typeface seem very strong, making a strong brand identity.

I like both designs above because they are very bold.

Using some of the ideas I used for my subject matter I created makeup product templates that I could add various designs to, I used mixed themes to design each makeup template, I thought about, typefaces, contrast, alignment, proximity, subject matter and some are more busy than others. From doing this I hope that I will be able to develop a brand identity and consider design layouts for the makeup product and design that I will be creating for my makeup poster eventually.

Possible Make Up Brand Names

After spending some time focusing on the development and potential vision of my make up brand I wanted to take my ideas further and start looking at names I could possibly uses for my makeup brand. Using the information I had already gather for subject matter I based my brand names around some of the subject matter ideas I have thought about from the beginning of my development, I think I have a good mixture os possible names for my brand which link to both the theme and my earlier subject matter ideas.

Drawings of Subject Matter Ideas

Once I had taken my own pictures of potential subject matter, I did various drawings of the subject matter while considering some of the ideas for my brand of makeup that I am developing. As well as drawing lots of different things of subject matter I tried to also tried to draw them using different styles of illustrations.

Photos of Subject Matter

After exploring some branding ideas and subject matter we view as perfection I  captured some potential photographs I could use as subject matter on either my poster, make up product or branding. I tried to capture a range of photographs which explored my original ideas and I could imagine visioning on a makeup brand.

Branding Ideas for a Poster and Make Up Products

To begin looking at my own brand I made these spider diagrams, plotting down some rough ideas that I could use when it comes to developing my brand or logo of my final makeup range. I based the spider diagram above around the theme of perfection which is fitting for makeup and I tried to think about subject mater we might view as perfection to eventually carry on and have the perfection subject matter  as the main iconic or recognisable thing on my makeup brand and poster.

Looking at Make-Up Products & Packaging

I wanted to gain a better understanding and grasp of how design elements are applied onto the make up product and its packaging to help me when I have to design my own for my makeup poster. I tried to choose mixed examples of makeup product designs to give me a verity of inspiration.

Pinterest Research

On my similar artefacts Pinterest board I pinned things that I liked the style and individual design of, because of my brief I could pin the actual make up product itself, for example mascara, lipstick, eyeliner and blusher which I liked the design of. I was also able to pin make up posters which I like because I will be designing one of my own eventually and looking at other makeup posters allows me to grasp the general design and communication concept of a poster/makeup poster.

I used my Inspiration Board for pinning styles, techniques and methods of design/illustration that I thought were interesting and stand out, those of which I may like to use or have a go at doing.

I used my Type Pinterest Board to explore various typefaces and give me some inspiration towards designing my own or finding a style I like.

Subject Matter is my mood board for things that I could potentially see myself using for my poster or branding on any make up products. Using pinterest for bringing together all my ideas on a collective board is really useful because you can see the gradual development of ideas coming together and the recognising the link between each pin can help clarify where you can see your product potentially going.
